New Ratings

215 hp at 2600 rpm (550 lb-ft peak torque)

This rating provides lower heat rejection for use with an Allison transmission. The current 215 hp rating will continue to be offered.

230 hp at 2600 rpm (650 lb-ft peak torque)

This is a new rating.

Emission Changes

A significant reduction in particulate emissions of 1994 occurred through several changes in the engine. Production of particulates is being reduced through increased injection pressures and a piston bowl shape that burns fuel more efficiently. Piston ring changes reduce oil consumption and exhaust particulates. "Hardened" governor and linkage parts help prevent increased emissions as these components wear. Catalytic converters are used on most engines.

1994 Component Changes

All 3116 Engine Ratings

* Hardened governor wear surfaces
* Hardened rack linkage wear surfaces
* Increased fuel injection pressure
* Piston crater shape change
* Ring pack change
* Turbocharger matching changes
* New camshaft
* Catalytic converter

215 - 300 hp Ratings Only

* New cylinder head to provide swirl combustion system (same as 170 - 200 hp engines)

Catalytic Converters

Catalytic converters are available in seven configurations. These configurations include two diameters (10 and 11 inches) with a variety of inlet and outlet locations. The chart provides part numbers and dimensions of the catalytic converters.

The engine price list will include catalytic converters as mandatory options. Orders, either form dealers or factory OEM's, can be placed either with or separately from an engine order.
