Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install

Usage:

C7.1 JME

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove turbocharger.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below the water temperature regulator, into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedure.

    Note: Take note of various bolts sizes and locations for reinstallation.

  2. Remove bolts (1), (2), and (3). Remove exhaust manifold (4). Remove exhaust manifold gasket (not shown) and discard.

  3. Remove tube assembly (5) from exhaust manifold (4). Inspect O-ring seals.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install exhaust manifold (4) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (3), (2), and (1) in the order as shown in Illustration 3.

    2. Tighten bolts (1) and (2) to a torque of 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

    3. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 55 N·m (41 lb ft).
