Check Valves Are Now Used in the Fuel System of Certain Electric Power Generation and Industrial Engines {1250, 1261, 5067}

Usage:

C27 DWB
Generator Set:
C27 GEN SET (S/N: DWB1-UP)
C32 GEN SET (S/N: K7C1-UP; SXC1-UP; JSJ1-UP)
Power Module:
C32 POWER MODUL (S/N: MED1-UP)

Description of Change: Check valves are added to the fuel start system to aid the starting of engines that have not run for long periods of time.

Adaptable To: The new changes are adaptable back to the first production of the listed engines.

The change is effective at the factory with the engine serial numbers that are listed in Table 1.

Refer to the procedure that follows to install check valves into the fuel block and fuel filter base.

Procedure to Install Check Valves into the Fuel Block

------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

----------------------

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Lock Out and Tag Out of the generator is applicable.

Note: Ensure that health and safety requirements are adhered to at all times.

  1. Open the generator set breaker

  1. Put the 4-position start switch "ESC" into the off position on Electronic Modular Control Panel (EMCP2) or push the stop button on the EMCP3.

  1. Activate the emergency stop.

  1. Isolate the AC auxiliary voltage for the battery chargers, the coolant heaters, the generator space heaters, and then disconnect the battery cable.

  1. Pull the suction tube out of the fuel tank and cap the end.

  1. Connect a vacuum pump to the supply line going to the fuel transfer pump.

  1. Vacuum test the whole supply side of the fuel system. The vacuum pump should maintain vacuum and not allow leak down. Repair any leaks.

  1. Disconnect the right and left cylinder fuel return hoses from the fuel block (3) .
