Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".

  2. Remove the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".

  3. Remove the turbochargers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove tube assemblies (2), (3), and (5) from flywheel housing (7).

  2. Remove air tubes (1) and (6) from flywheel housing (7).

  3. Remove exhaust elbows (4).

  4. Remove bolts (9) and install Tooling (B).

  5. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (7). The weight of flywheel housing (7) is approximately 112 kg (250 lb).

  6. Remove bolts (8), flywheel housing (7), and the gasket from the cylinder block.

NOTICE

  1. Install Tooling (B) in the cylinder block.

  2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (7). The weight of flywheel housing (7) is approximately 112 kg (250 lb).

  3. Position the gasket and flywheel housing (7) on the cylinder block. Install bolts (8).

  4. Remove Tooling (B) and install bolts (9).

  5. Tighten the bolts, as follows:

    1. In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 1 through Bolt 2 to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

    2. In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 3 through Bolt 10 to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).

    3. In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 11 through Bolt 36 to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).

  6. Install exhaust elbows (4).

  7. Install air tubes (6) and (1) on flywheel housing (7).

  8. Install tube assemblies (5), (3), and (2) on flywheel housing (7).

End By:

  1. Install the turbochargers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove and Install".

  2. Install the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".

  3. Install the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Install".
