Ohmmeter dapat digunakan untuk memeriksa varistor (CR7). Letakkan ohmmeter menghadap varistor. Resistan harus minimum 15.000 ohm. Jika resistan kurang dari 15.000 ohm, varistor rusak.

Lampu Pengujian | |
Bacalah lampu pengujian yang ditampilkan dalam Ilustrasi 2. Ikuti langkah-langkah ini untuk menguji varistor:
- Lepaskan sambungan kabel varistor (CR7).
- Letakkan lampu uji menghadap varistor.
- Amati hasilnya. Lampu seharusnya tidak menyala.
- Balik lampu pengujian.
- Amati hasilnya. Lampu seharusnya tidak menyala.
Jika lampu pengujian menyala pada arah mana pun, ada hubung singkat pada varistor. Ganti varistor yang rusak dengan varistor dengan karakteristik kerja yang sebanding. Sertakan informasi berikut bila akan memesan varistor pengganti:
- Nomor suku cadang varistor
- Nomor seri generator
Setelah varistor diganti, pastikan bahwa ikatan kawat kumparan medan dililitkan dengan kencang ke poros. Juga, pastikan bahwa ikatan kawat kumparan medan terikat dengan kencang.
