Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.

A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.


  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Put an identification mark on the harness assemblies that are connected to the alternator for installation purposes. Disconnect the harness assemblies from the alternator.

  3. Loosen nuts (3) on adjustment rod (2).

  4. Loosen the nut on bolt (7). Push the top of the alternator toward the cylinder block. Remove V-belt (6) from the alternator pulley.

  5. Remove bolt (1) and bolt (7). Remove alternator (4).

  6. Remove nut (5) and the alternator pulley from alternator (4).

  7. If necessary, remove the bolts and the mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. If necessary, install the mounting bracket and the bolts.

  2. Install the alternator pulley and nut (5). Tighten the nut to a torque of 110 ± 10 N·m (80 ± 7 lb ft).

  3. Place alternator (4) in position and install bolt (7).

  4. Put adjustment rod (2) in position on the alternator and install bolt (1).

  5. Install V-belt (6). Tighten the V-belt and nuts (3). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Belt Tension Chart".

  6. Connect the harness assemblies to the alternator. Tighten the nuts. Refer to Specifications, "Alternator and Regulator".

  7. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
