Modification Of 5P9726 Plug Gauge That Is Used To Check Brake Wear{0653}

Usage:

777 Truck, 776 Tractors, 773B Truck, 772B Tractor

It is possible that the two components of the 5P9726 Plug Gauge can be separated and become lost. To prevent a loss of the two components, a simple modification can be made to hold the components of the 5P9726 Plug Gauge together.

Modification To 5P9726 Plug Gauge:

... Remove the rod from the plug; then drill a 1.7 mm (No. 51) hole through the end of the rod as shown in Illustration 1.

Illustration 1. Location of hole in rod.

Illustration 2. Installation of rod in plug and 4B4863 (#8) Washer and 3B4604 Cotter Pin in rod.

... Install the rod in the plug; then install a 4B4863 (#8) Washer and a 3B4604 Cotter Pin in the rod as shown in Illustration 2. The rod will now be held in the plug to prevent loss of the components.

This modification can be made to all earlier 5P9726 Plug Gauges. The 3B4604 Cotter Pin and the 4B4863 (#8) Washer are available from the Parts Department. All future production of the 5P9726 Plug Gauge will include this modification.
