R250 Automatic Voltage Regulator Caterpillar

1. Verify that the adjustment for the voltage is not too high.

Results:

• OK - The voltage adjustment is correct. Go to Step 2.

• Not OK - The voltage adjustment is too high.

  Repair: Adjust the voltage to the correct setpoint.

  STOP

Test Step 2. Diode Test

1. Shut off the generator set.

2. Check the diodes. Refer to Service Manual, KENR8205, "Rotating Rectifier - Test" for the procedure to test the diodes.

Results:

• OK - The diodes are good. Go to Step 3.

• Not OK - The diodes are bad.

  Repair: Replace the bad diodes.

  STOP

Test Step 3. Voltage Sense Circuit

1. Check for the correct sensing input to the voltage regulator.

Results:

• OK - The sensing circuit is good. Go to Step 4.

• Not OK - The sensing circuit is bad.

  Repair: Troubleshoot and repair the wiring or connections.

  STOP

Test Step 4. Replace the Voltage Regulator

Refer to Service Manual, KENR8205 for instructions in order to replace the regulator.

Results:

• OK - STOP
