Field evaluations and laboratory testing of G3600 connecting rod bearings indicate that carbon deposits can gradually form on the back side of the lower shell of the rod bearing. These deposits can reduce the heat transfer from the bearing to the rod. This can reduce the oil film thickness between the bearing and the crankshaft. In order to prevent bearing failure, the connecting rod bearings must be changed at the interval that is recommended in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow this recommendation could lead to bearing failure and damage to the crankshaft.

Table 1 lists the recommended service hour maintenance interval for replacing the connecting rod bearings.
