Usage:
All 10 And 12 Lead Self-Excited SR4 Generators
The VR3 voltage regulator currently used on SR4 Generators is a solid state modular design. This regulator has the latest electronic design and improved reliability. It can be installed in place of any of the former regulators on all earlier self-excited (SE) SR4 Generators with 10 or 12 leads.
The new parts needed to install the new regulator are in the following list. Special Instruction SEHS8866 comes with either of the new mounting brackets.
- 1 - 7C1600 Regulator Assembly
- 1 - 7C9120 Bracket (Not for saddle-mounted terminal box)
- 1 - 7C9121 Bracket (For saddle-mounted terminal box)
- 6 - 9S8750 Nut
- 6 - 332075 Washer
- 6 - 5P537 Washer
- 3 - 7C5708 Grommet
- 3 - 7C5709 Sleeve
- 1 - 8J1256 Clip
- 1 - 7C9120 Bracket (Not for saddle-mounted terminal box)
Service Manual Supplement SENR3473 contains operation, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting information.
Use Of Existing Attachments With New Regulator
Some attachments used with the former regulator must be replaced if the new regulator is installed. Other attachments can be reused.
... Remote Voltage Level. This potentiometer is mounted in the control panel or the switch gear, and must be replaced with a 7C4471 Potentiometer. Wiring connections are included in the Special Instruction and in the Service Manual Supplement.
... Voltage Droop Control. The 6L7007 Droop Potentiometer can be reused by removing it from the former regulator and installing it in the opening in the new mounting bracket. Wiring connections are provided in the Special Instruction and in the Service Manual Supplement.
... Series Boost. A new series boost module and associated parts will be available later for the new regulator. The existing series boost is electrically compatible with the VR3. Provisions for mounting the existing series boost with the VR3 are not provided.
... Manual Control. A new 7C2700 Manual Control Assembly is available for use with the new regulator. The 5N1613 Manual Control used with the A1-type regulator cannot be used with the new regulator. But, the 5N591 Manual Control Assembly used with either the 5N9440, 5N9441 or 5N9442 Regulator Assembly can be used with the new regulator. Contact your Service Engineering Product Analyst for installation instructions if the 5N591 Manual Control Assembly is to be reused. If a new manual control is used, wiring connections are provided in the Service Manual Supplement.
