Usage:
D379, D398, D399 Engines
In applications where the Caterpillar coupling is used, it is possible to remove the connection to the inner member of the coupling and then operate the engine. For example, this can be done to operate one of a pair of tandem engines or to test an engine with a load. If the connection is removed, the inner member of the coupling must be restrained (held in position).
If the inner member of the coupling is not restrained during engine operation, the result can be excessive vibration and damage to the coupling. It is also possible that the inner member of the coupling can be thrown out of the coupling and cause damage to equipment or injury to people in the work area.

For the 3N5609, 3N5577, 5N3764 and 5N3765 Coupling Groups either restrain the inner member of the coupling by the installation of a 5N3171 Plate Assembly, or remove the inner member of the coupling and the rubber boots. For other Caterpillar coupling groups, remove the inner member of coupling and the rubber boots.
