SERVICE MAGAZINE; NOVEMBER 30, 1987; PAGE 9; "Improved Starter Solenoid Prevents Contact Corrosion" for 3208, 3304, 3306 and 3306B Industrial, Spark Ignited, and Marine Engines. Add the following sentences at the end of the article.

When replacing a motor group, be sure the new motor group has the improved solenoid. For Bosch Motors, also refer to the November 10, 1986, Service Magazine, Page 3 for the correct solenoid adjustment.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: The starter solenoid on the above engines has been improved. This 7T2885 Solenoid Assembly is used on the 3T2655 Motor Group (7T2265 Starter) and on the 3T2648 Motor Group (7T2266 Starter-3208 Marine, 75V and 1Z S/N prefixes). The new solenoid has been changed to minimize corrosion on the inside end of the battery post where it is one contact for the solenoid switch. The corrosion acts as an insulator and can keep the motor from cranking. If this occurs, closing the START switch only causes a "click" to occur when the starter pinion engages the ring gear.

Adaptable To: The improved 7T2885 Solenoid Assembly (part number did not change) can be used as a direct replacement for the earlier solenoid. The improved solenoids are identified by the date code "745" or higher stamped on top of the solenoid mounting bracket.
