Missing Pipe Plugs on the C-10, C-12, C-15, C15, and C-16 Engines Jake Brake{1119}

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Some of the above listed engines have had reports of poor Jake Brake performance due to loose brake housing pipe plugs or missing brake housing pipe plugs.

Solution

Do not replace the entire housing.

If the plug is missing, replace the plug with a new 8T-6759 Pipe Plug . Tighten the plug.

Torque for plug ... 11.5 ± 1 N·m (100 ± 10 lb in)

If the plug is loose, remove the plug. Clean the threads of the plug. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound , 4C-4030 Thread Lock Compound , 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound , or 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound . Tighten the plug.

Torque for plug ... 11.5 ± 1 N·m (100 ± 10 lb in)

Note: If the brake housing has been removed, refer to the Testing and Adjusting manual for adjustments of the brake housing.
