Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove tire and rim (front).


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.


  1. Drain the oil from the fixed axle. The capacity of the fixed axle is 87 L (23 US gal).

  2. Remove bolt (3) and cover plate (6). Disconnect harness assembly (1).

  3. Disconnect hose assemblies (2), (4), and (5).

  4. Disconnect hose assembly (7). Remove bolts (8). Reposition drive shaft (9).

  5. Loosen bolts (11). Reposition carrier bearing (10).

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to axle assembly (13). The weight of axle assembly (13) is approximately 1900 kg (4200 lb).

  7. Remove nuts (12) and the washers that hold axle assembly (13) to the front loader frame.

  8. Remove axle assembly (13).
