Adapting the Jacobs Brake Module Function{1119, 1129} Caterpillar

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The current service replacement 3E-5293 Electronic Control Group does not provide the pulse width modulated (PWM) signal that is required by the Jacobs Brake Module in order to operate the compression brakes.

Solution

Replace the Jacobs Brake Module in order to adapt trucks that have the Jacobs Brake Module and Jacobs Dash Module to use the 3E-5293 Electronic Control Group . For trucks without anti-lock brake systems (ABS), install the 143-6602 Relay Group . For trucks with ABS, install the 143-6601 Relay Group .

Trucks that have manual switches in place for the compression brakes can replace the Jacobs Brake Module with a relay as shown in the following Illustration 1 below.
