Removal Procedure
The ignition system may cause an electrical shock hazard, which may cause personal injury or death. Avoid contacting the ignition system components and the ignition system wiring during operation. |
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool. |
NOTICE |

If the engine is running or the keyswitch is in the ON position, the ignition coil for the ARD spark plug will continue to fire. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position before servicing the ignition coil for the ARD spark plug. |
- Raise the hood.
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Remove bolt (2) from the soot antenna wire clamps. Remove bolts (3) and panel (1) .

- Slide the unlocking tab for harness assembly (4) into the unlocked position. Disconnect harness assembly (4) .

- Disconnect ignition wire (5) from ignition coil (8) .
- Disconnect ground wire assembly (7) from ignition coil (8) .
- Cut required cable straps (6) in order to separate the harness assemblies from ignition coil (8) .
- Remove bolts (9) and the spacers from ignition coil (8). Remove ignition coil (8) from the bracket for the clean emission module.
Note: Note position of any brackets.
- If necessary, follow Step 9.a through Step 9.c in order to remove ignition wire (5) from clean emission module.
- Cut remaining cable straps (10) from ignition cable (5) .
Note: Note position of cable straps. Ensure that all cable straps are removed from the harness assemblies.

- Disconnect bolt (11). Disconnect ground wire (7). Disconnect ignition wire (5) from the spark plug.

- Make temporary marks on ignition wire (5) for installation purposes. Remove ignition wire (5) assembly from the clean emission module.
- Cut remaining cable straps (10) from ignition cable (5) .
Installation Procedure
- Install ignition coil (8) in the reverse order of removal.
- Tighten bolt (11) to a torque of 12 N·m (106 lb in).
Note: Ensure that the ground strap is not strained as the bolt is tightened.
- Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Install new cable straps (10) and cable straps (6) .
Note: Ensure that cable straps meet the OEM specification.
- Tighten bolt (11) to a torque of 12 N·m (106 lb in).
