Engine Oil Cooler - Remove
Removal Procedure
Start By:
- If necessary, remove the tube assembly from the prelubrication oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Prelubrication Oil Pump - Remove and Install".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
- Drain the engine oil from the engine oil cooler into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".
- Remove the bolts and retainers (3) from both ends of tube (2) .

- Remove the bolt and clamp (1) .
- Disconnect flange (5) and tube (4) from the adapter for the water tube.
- Remove the bolts in elbow (6) and tube (7). Remove elbow (6) and tube (7) from the engine oil cooler bonnet.

- Disconnect harness assembly (10) for the detonation sensor.

- Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil cooler (12). The weight of engine oil cooler (12) on G3508 Engines is approximately 45 kg (100 lb). The weight of engine oil cooler (12) on G3512 Engines is approximately 65 kg (145 lb). The weight of engine oil cooler (12) on G3516 Engines is approximately 78 kg (171 lb). Remove bolts (9) and bolts (13) .
- Remove engine oil cooler (12) from tube (11) and remove tube assembly (8) .
