Procedure for Testing the 167-1709 Pressure Sensor Gp on the 3126 Industrial Engine{1718, 1916, 1917, 1923, 1924, 1925}

Usage:

3126 1WM
Industrial Engine:
3126 (S/N: 6RW1-UP)
3126 (S/N: 1WM1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The 167-1709 Pressure Sensor Gp has had reports of not operating properly.

Solution

Refer to the following testing procedure to determine if the 167-1709 Pressure Sensor Gp is operating properly. Also test the system in order to ensure that there are no other problems.

  1. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position, but do not start the engine.

Note: Do not disconnect the connector between the sensor and the wiring harness. The 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe come with leads in order to perform this procedure without disconnecting the connectors.

  1. Connect the black 7X-1709 Multimeter Probe to pin (B). Determine if a good ground exists.

  1. Connect the red 7X-1708 Multimeter Probe to pin (A). Determine if good signal voltage exists. The voltage signal will be 5.00 ± 0.25 Volts.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Determine if good voltage signal exists. The voltage signal will be 5.00 ± 0.25 Volts.

  1. Turn off the engine.

  1. If the voltage signal is not correct or there is a bad ground, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) or the wiring harness needs to be checked. The sensor is not necessarily bad. If this condition exists, contact the following person.

  1. If the voltage signal is correct and there is a good ground, check the sensor.

  1. Remove 7X-1708 Multimeter Probe from pin (A) and put the probe on pin (C) .

  1. Start the engine. Run the engine at idle speed.

  1. Check the voltage of pin (C). The voltage will read 1.00 ± 0.25 Volts.

  1. Turn off the engine.

  1. Remove the sensor from the engine.

  1. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position, but do not start the engine.

  1. Check the voltage of pin (C). The voltage will read 0 Volts.

  1. If either of the readings or both of the readings are incorrect, the sensor needs to be replaced.

  1. Remove all of the test equipment.

  1. If the sensor fails this test, please return the sensor according to the request for parts return and include the following test voltages.

    • The voltage from Pin A with the engine that is running

    • The voltage from Pin A with the engine that is not running

    • The voltage from Pin C with the engine that is running

    • The voltage from Pin C with the sensor out of the engine and the engine that is not running
