Overvoltage Protection For Woodward 2301 Governor{1289}

Usage:

All Engines Equipped With Woodward Model 2301 Governors

Description of Change: A preregulator is available to give high voltage protection to the Woodward 2301 Governor. Voltage higher than 40 volts can cause governor failure. The preregulator will limit the governor supply voltage to 36 ± 2 volts. There are four main causes of governor failure that can be eliminated by use of this preregulator.

1. Battery disconnect during operation. Engine driven alternators and battery chargers give positive voltages that can cause damage if the battery becomes disconnected during operation.
2. Nickel-cadmium battery systems. Charging rates on 32 volt nickel-cadmium battery systems can be above 40 volts.
3. Reverse voltage damage. Incorrect wiring installation can cause reverse polarity voltage to the governor supply circuit. This also can result in permanent damage to the Woodward 2301 Governor.
4. Wiring shorts. Incorrect wiring installation can also result in actuator lead shorts that would damage the Woodward 2301 Governor.

NOTE: Two extra fuses, all necessary wiring and Special Instruction, Form SMHS8345, are supplied with each preregulator.

Adaptable To: The 4W5391 Preregulator is adaptable to all Caterpillar Engines with Woodward 2301 Governors.
