    Typical example

  1. Lubricate the hub (3 ) with clean engine lubricating oil. Slide the hub (3) into the idler gear (1).

  2. Ensure that the oil hole (2) is to the top of the hub (3) and ensure that the marks are to the front of the idler gear (1).

Note: Ensure that the hub and the bearing are installed into the idler gear from the correct side of the gear. The marks on the gear teeth must face forward.

  1. In order to assemble the heavy-duty idler gear, install the circlip (8) into the back face of the idler gear (5). Place the back face of the idler gear (5) onto a clean, flat surface. Insert the thrust washer (7) through the idler gear (5) and onto the circlip (8). Ensure that the flange face of the bearing assembly (6) is toward the bottom and that the protective sleeve is still in place. Insert the new bearing assembly (6) into the idler gear (5).

  2. Push the new bearing assembly (6) into the idler gear (5) until the bearing assembly comes into contact with the thrust washer (7). As the bearing assembly (6) is pushed into the idler gear (5) the protective sleeve will remain on the top face of the idler gear.

  3. Discard the protective sleeve. Install the thrust washer (4) and install the circlip (3).

  4. Lightly lubricate the hub (9) with clean engine lubricating oil. Press the hub (9) into the idler gear (2).

  5. Align the three setscrew holes in the plate (2) to the hub (9).

  6. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of the allen head screw (1).

Note: The plate is marked with the word "TOP". This is for installation of the heavy-duty idler gear to the engine gear train.

  7. Install the allen head screw (1). Tighten the allen head screw to 9 N·m (6 lb ft).
