Engine Oil Cooler - Remove - Engine In Chassis

Usage:

988G 2TW

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the transmission oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Oil Cooler - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Cap all lines, all hoses, and all tubes and plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Drain the oil from the engine crankcase into a suitable container. The capacity of the engine crankcase is 70 L (18 US gal).

    Note: It is not necessary to remove the engine and the torque converter from the machine. The engine and the torque converter were removed for photographic clarity.

  1. Remove bolt (2) and bonnet (1) .

  1. Remove the O-ring seal from the bonnet (not shown).

  1. Remove bolt (3) .

  1. Remove two bolts (4) and engine oil cooler (5) .

  1. Remove the adapter from the engine oil cooler (not shown).

  1. Remove two O-ring seals from the adapter.

  1. Remove O-ring seals (5) and (6) .
