A Stronger Carrier Roller Mounting Bracket Improves Reliability {4154}

Usage:

D9L 14Y
Track-Type Tractor:
D8L (PIN: 4FB; 53Y)
D9L (PIN: 14Y)
D9N (PIN: 1JD; 6XJ)
D9R (PIN: 7TL; 8BL)
D10N (PIN: 2YD; 3SK)
D10R (PIN: 3KR)

Description of Change: The mounting joints for the carrier rollers have been strengthened. Additional plates and gussets are welded to the inner joint on each track roller frame. The addition of the plates and gussets improves strength and reliability in the mounting joint. The plates and gussets reduce the chances of cracking.

Adaptable To: The new design is adaptable to D8L (S/N: 4FB1-UP; 53Y1-UP), D9L (S/N: 14Y1-UP), D9N (S/N: 1JD1-UP; 6XJ1-UP), D9R (S/N: 7TL1-1088; 8BL1-1366), D10N (S/N: 2YD1-UP; 3SK1-UP), and D10R (S/N: 3KR1-1222) Track-Type Tractors. The new design is effective with D9R (S/N: 7TL1089-UP; 8BL1367-UP), and D10R (S/N: 3KR1223-UP) Track-Type Tractors.

The new design requires fabrication of two plates and two gussets for each side of the machine. Refer to the fabrication procedure for dimensions and for descriptions of the material. Refer to the welding procedure for instructions on welding the reinforcements.

Procedure for Fabrication of the Gussets and Plates

  1. Cut the plates for the machine that is being retrofitted. Use steel with 42 ksi yield strength. 30 ksi steel is acceptable. Four plates are required for each machine. Refer to Illustration 1and Table 1 for dimensions.

Procedure for Welding Gussets and Plates

  1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel. Lower the implements to the ground.

  1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in the view of the operator.

  1. Engage the parking brake.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Move the hydraulic control levers to all positions in order to release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  1. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Refer to Manual, SEBD0512, "Service Welding Guide" for welding procedures.

  1. Install the welding ground wire as near to the weld as practical.

  1. Locate two gussets and two plates to each carrier roller mounting bracket. Weld the gussets and plates to each carrier roller mounting bracket. Use Illustrations 4 and 5 for locations.
