Engine to Torque Converter - Connect

  1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the torque converter and the engine prior to the connection.

  1. Replace the O-ring seals that are used in the installation of the torque converter. Use new parts for the replacement.

  1. Install the O-ring seal that is between the engine and the torque converter.

  1. Lubricate the O-ring seal slightly with clean transmission oil.

  1. Attach Tooling (B) to torque converter (1). Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to Tooling (B) .

  1. Use a hoist to align torque converter (1) to the engine for the connection. The weight of the torque converter is 635 kg (1400 lb).

  1. Fasten the torque converter to the engine with eleven bolts (2). The torque for the bolts is 240 ± 40 N·m (175 ± 30 lb ft).

End By: Install the engine and the torque converter assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine and Torque Converter - Install".
