NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
- Lubricate all seals with the fluid that is being sealed.
- Install spring (22), plunger (21), O-ring seal (20), and plug (19) to the threaded hole in hydraulic control valve body (3) .

- Install diaphragm (18) in body (3) .
- Install pin (14) to spool (5). Install spool (5) into body (3) until the spool is seated snugly in diaphragm (18) .
- Position stop (13) so that the ring groove in the stop captures the lip on diaphragm (18). Check that pin (14) is inserted in the hole in stop (13). Install bolt (12) that secures stop (13) to spool (5). For the correct torque, refer to Specifications, "Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve" for the Power Train.
- Install plug (17) to cover (16). Position cover (16) to body (3). Install four bolts (15) and the lockwashers that secure cover (16) to body (3). For the correct torque, refer to Specifications, "Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve" for the Power Train.
- Install spring (9), stop (8), spring (7), and slug (6) to spool (5) .
- Install O-ring seal (4) to hydraulic control valve body (3). Position cover (2) to hydraulic control valve body (3). Install two bolts that are longer than bolts (1) through cover (2) and into hydraulic control valve body (3). Tighten the longer bolts until slug (6) is seated into spool (5) and bolts (1) can be installed. Install two bolts (1) that secure cover (2) to hydraulic control valve body (3). Remove the two longer bolts and install remaining bolts (1). For the correct torque, refer to Specifications, "Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve" for the Power Train.
End By: Install the retarder hydraulic control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve - Install".
