Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the retarder hydraulic control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Retarder Hydraulic Control Valve - Remove".

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove two of the four bolts (1) that are on opposite corners. Bolts (1) secure cover (2) to hydraulic control valve body (3). Install longer bolts in place of the two bolts that were removed. Remove the remaining two bolts (1). Loosen the longer bolts slowly. Loosen the longer bolts evenly in order to remove cover (2) from hydraulic control valve body (3). Remove the O-ring seal (4) from hydraulic control valve body (3) .

  1. Remove spool (5) from body (3). Remove slug (6), spring (7), stop (8), and spring (9) from spool (5) .

  1. Remove bolt (12) that secures stop (13) to spool (5). Remove stop (13) from spool (5). Remove pin (14) from spool (5) .

  1. Remove four bolts (15) and the lockwashers that secure cover (16) to body (3). Remove cover (16) from body (3). Remove plug (17) from cover (16) .

  1. Remove diaphragm (18) from body (3) .

  1. Remove plug (19), O-ring seal (20), plunger (21), and spring (22) from the threaded hole in hydraulic control valve body (3) .
