Key Start Switch |
The key start switch is an input to the relay control. The switch tells the relay control that the operator wants to start the engine. The transmission and grapple Electronic Control Module (ECM) then initiates the neutral start function.
During normal machine operation, the start switch is open. When the key start switch is turned to the START position, the start switch closes to positive battery voltage. This voltage is present at connector contact 1 of the relay control. When all the conditions are satisfied for the neutral start function, the ECM will send a signal to the contact 4 on the relay control. The relay control will send a signal to the start relay contact 6 of the relay control. A positive battery voltage will be sent from start relay contact 6 to the start relay. The engine will proceed to start.
Note: After the key start switch is initially turned to the START position, the switch will not return to the START position from the ON position. The switch must be turned to the OFF position first before the switch can be turned to the START position again.
Reference: For more information about the neutral start function, refer to the Service Manual module, Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission Electronic Control Operation" for the machine that is being serviced.
