Start By:

  1. Remove the radiator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator - Remove". The information is in this manual.
  2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Cleaner - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all hoses and wires during the disassembly procedures for installation purposes.

  1. Drain the engine oil from the engine crankcase. The capacity of the engine crankcase is approximately 24 L (6.3 US gal) .

  1. Loosen two clamps (1) and remove swivel (2) .

  1. Turn valve (3) to the OFF position and remove fuel lines (4) and (5) . Remove nut (6) and linkage (7) .

  1. Remove connector (8) from the clip.

  1. Remove wiring harness clip (9) . Remove two bolts (10) and remove bracket assembly (11) and linkage (7) .

  1. Remove nut (12) and starter cable (13) . Remove nut (14) and ground cable (15) .

  1. Remove bolt (16) and disconnect battery cable (17) . Disconnect wire (18) .

  1. Disconnect line (22) and remove fitting (23) . Remove dipstick (24) .

  1. Remove bolt (30) and bracket (31) from the top of the torque converter.

  1. Remove three bolts (32) and the wiring clips. Remove bolt (33) and bracket (34) .

  1. Disconnect main wiring harness (35) and wiring harness (36) .

  1. Disconnect connector (37) and remove all tie straps (38) . Position wiring assembly (39) on the top of the engine.

  1. Disconnect connector (40) and remove all tie straps (41) . Position wiring assembly (42) on the top of the engine.

  1. Remove four hose clamps (55) . Remove four bolts (56) and disconnect hose assembly (57) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (58) , (59) and (60) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (61) and (62) , and disconnect hydraulic line (63) .

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (64) and hydraulic line (65) .

  1. Disconnect three hose assemblies (66) , (67) and (68) .

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (69) from the torque converter.

  1. Remove four bolts (70) and disconnect drive shaft (71) .

  1. Fasten a hoist and Tool (A) in order to remove the engine.

  1. Remove rear motor mount bolts (72) from each side of the engine.

  1. Remove front motor mount bolts (73) from each side of the engine and remove the engine. The weight of the engine is approximately 1383 kg (3050 lb) .
