Start By:
- Separate the final drive and the wheel from the service brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive and Wheel from Service Brake - Separate".

NOTICE |
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

- Remove five plates (1) and four discs (3) from brake housing (2) .

- Remove hub (4) from the brake housing.

- Use Tooling (B) to remove retaining ring (5) from hub (4) .

- Install Tooling (A) on the brake housing. The large plate is installed under the piston return springs.

- Use Tooling (A) to compress the piston return springs. Remove six retainer pins (6) from the spring guides.

- Release the spring tension and remove Tooling (A). Remove six spring guides (8) and six piston return springs (7) .

- Remove piston (9) from the brake housing.

- Remove outer piston seal (10) from the brake housing.

- Remove inner piston seal (11) from the brake housing.

Note: Thrust washer (12) is bonded to brake housing (2). Do not remove thrust washer (12) unless the thrust washer is worn or damaged. Refer to the following steps for the removal of thrust washer (12) .
Note: Do not apply heat directly to the brake housing. Excessive heat may reduce the service life of the brake housing.
- Remove four flat head screws (13). Use a torch to apply a small amount of heat to thrust washer (12). This will release the material that was used for bonding.
- Remove thrust washer (12) from brake housing (2) .
