( 1 ) 8 inches in length

Note: Thoroughly clean all parts and inspect the condition of all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Replace the inner piston seal and the outer piston seal with new seals.

    Note: If the thrust washer was not removed, start with Step 5. If the thrust washer was removed, start with Step 1. Use a new thrust washer and new flat head screws.

  1. Thoroughly remove the adhesive from the mounting surface of brake housing (2).

  1. Use 4C-9500 Quick Cure Primer to thoroughly clean the contact surface of the new thrust washer and the mounting surface of the brake housing. Both surfaces must be clean and dry before you proceed to the next step.

  1. Apply 4C-9506 Retaining Compound to the mounting surface of brake housing (2) .

  1. Install thrust washer (12) and four flat head screws (13). The torque for screws is 28 ± 7 N·m (21 ± 5 lb ft).

  1. Install inner piston seal (11) in the brake housing. Make sure that the round side of the seal is facing outward.

  1. Install outer piston seal (10) in the brake housing. Make sure that the round side of the seal is facing inward.

  1. Apply a thin coat of clean hydraulic oil to piston seals (10) and (11) and to the piston bore.

  1. Apply a thin coat of clean hydraulic oil to piston (9). Install piston (9) in the brake housing. Align the six guide holes of the piston with the six guide holes in the brake housing, as shown.

  1. Install six spring guides (8) and six piston return springs (7) .

  1. Install Tooling (A) on the brake housing. The large plate is installed under the piston return springs.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to compress the piston return springs. Install six retainer pins (6) in the spring guides.

  1. Release the spring tension and remove Tooling (A) .

  1. Use Tooling (B) to install retaining ring (5) on hub (4) .

  1. Apply clean final drive oil on the thrust washer. Install hub (4) in the brake housing.

  1. Apply clean final drive oil on plates (1) and on discs (3) .

  1. Install five plates (1) and four discs (3) in brake housing (2) in alternating order. Start with a plate.

End By: Connect the final drive and the wheel to the service brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive and Wheel to Service Brake - Connect".
