Final Drive - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Remove".
  2. Remove the track roller frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Roller Frame - Remove".
  3. Drain the oil from the final drive case.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Check the condition of all seals and of all components. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

    Note: If you need to only remove the sprocket, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Sprocket Assembly - Remove" before completing this removal procedure.

  1. Remove bolts (1) .

  1. Remove cap (2) .

  1. Remove four shims (5) .

  1. Remove hub (6).

  1. Remove the seal from hub (6) .

  1. Remove eight bolts (7) .

  1. Install a wood block between sprocket (8) and final drive cover (9) .

  1. Install two puller bolts (10) .

  1. Remove hub (11) .

  1. Remove ring (12) .

  1. Remove nut lock (13) .

  1. Remove nut (14) .

  1. Loosen hub assembly (15) by using a puller tool that has three points.

  1. Remove the spacer and bearing (16) .

  1. Remove hub (15) .

  1. Remove bearing (17) and the spacer.

  1. Install an appropriate lifting device and a hoist to the final drive case and the sprocket.

  1. Remove the final drive case and the sprocket.
