E040 Low Engine Oil Pressure Shutdown

Conditions Which Generate This Code:

The engine has been running for 30 seconds and the Electronic Control Module (ECM) has detected an engine oil pressure that has dropped below the shutdown trip point for low oil pressure protection.

System Response:

The engine will shut down if the "Engine Monitoring Mode" is programmed to "Shut Down". The ECM will log the event.

  • The engine is shutdown.

Test Step 1. Check the Engine Oil Level

  1. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.

  1. Check the engine oil level.

    Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Level - Check".

Expected Result:

The engine oil level is OK.

Results:

  • OK - The engine oil level is OK. There may be a problem with the engine's lubrication system.

    Repair: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Engine Oil Pressure - Test".

    STOP

  • Not OK - The engine oil level is low.

    Repair: Add engine oil to the proper level. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.

    STOP
