Function and Navigation Keys

Reference: The call outs in this section are related to the EMCP 3 illustration in the Systems Operation, RENR7902, "Electronic Control Module (Generator Set)" section.

The keys that are listed below are used for programming the EMCP 3 and are used for navigating within the menu structure.

Reference: For a full explanation of the use of the function keys and the navigation keys that are referenced in this section, refer to the information in Systems Operation, RENR7902, "Electronic Control Module (Generator Set)".

Note: The enter and escape keys are considered as function keys. The scroll left, scroll right, scroll up, and scroll down keys are considered as navigation keys.

Escape (9) - The "Escape" key is used in order to navigate up (backward) through the menu structure. The "Escape" key is used to back out of any data entry screen. The escape key can be used during set point programming before any changes to the existing data are accepted.

Enter key (10) - The "Enter" key is used in order to select a highlighted menu item or in order to save a programmed value.

Scroll Right key (11) - Used during numeric data entry in order to choose the digit to edit. Also used during certain set point adjustments in order to select or deselect a check box.

Scroll Down key (12) - Used in order to move down through the main menu or to navigate within a list in order to highlight one of the items. Also used to decrement digits (0-9).

Scroll Up key (13) - Used in order to move up through the main menu or navigate within a list in order to highlight one of the items. Also used to increment digits (0-9).

Scroll Left key (14) - Used during numeric data entry in order to choose the digit to edit. Also used during certain set point adjustments in order to select or deselect a check box.

Adjustment

Use the following procedure in order to adjust the voltage and frequency of the generator output.

  1. From the "MAIN MENU", use the arrow keys and enter key to navigate to the "CONTROL" menu.

    1. Press the enter key in order to select "CONTROL". "SPEED" or "VOLTAGE" will be displayed.

Note: The voltage can only be controlled from the EMCP 3 if a CDVR is installed on the generator. Speed can only be controlled if there is an ADEM 3 or newer ECM on the engine.

    2. Press "Enter".

    3. Press the scroll up key in order to increase the voltage and press the scroll down key in order to decrease the voltage.

Note: When adjusting the voltage, an offset is applied to the set point value for "Generator Nominal Output Voltage". The set point is transmitted over the J1939 primary data link to the CDVR voltage regulator. The offset is retained until battery power is cycled to the EMCP 3. Cycling the battery power to the EMCP 3 will remove the offset. Once the offset is removed, the transmitted value reverts to the set point value for "Generator Nominal Output Voltage".

    4. Press the scroll left key in order to decrease the engine speed and press the scroll right key in order to increase the engine speed.

Note: When adjustments to the frequency are made, an offset is applied to the set point value for "Generator Nominal Output Frequency". The data is transmitted over the J1939 primary data link to the engine controller. The data is retained until battery power is cycled to the EMCP 3. Cycling the battery power to the EMCP 3 will remove the offset. Once the offset is removed, the transmitted value reverts to the set point value for "Generator Nominal Output Frequency".

Idle Speed and Rated Speed

The engine speed can be toggled between the "LOW IDLE" and the "RATED SPEED" with the use of the EMCP 3.

  1. From the "MAIN MENU", select "CONTROL".

  2. Press the scroll down key in order to highlight "IDLE/RATED".

  3. Press the enter key. The "IDLE/RATED" screen will be displayed. The current state will be displayed.

  4. To change the state, press the enter key. Then press the scroll up key or the scroll down key in order to select the desired value.

  5. Press the enter key in order to accept the change.
