Usage:
start by:
a) remove timing gear cover
b) remove accessory drive shaft on machine with a compact fuel system
1. Put the engine in correct timing. See REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for this procedure.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE
2. Remove the bolt and washer that hold gear (1) and install tooling (C) on the end of the bolt. Install and tighten the bolt, washer and tooling (C) to hold the sleeve on the end of the fuel injection pump camshaft.
3. Install tooling (A) on gear (1) and tighten the center bolt of tooling (A) until gear (1) is loosened. Remove tooling (B), the bolt, washers and gear (1).
4. Remove bolts (4), the plate and idler gear (2). Remove bolts (5) and the washers to remove gear (6) from the camshaft.
5. Inspect the bearing in idler gear (2) for wear or damage. If a replacement of the bearing is needed, use tool group (B) and a press to remove it from the gear as shown.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE
6. Remove the three nuts and washers that hold the fuel injection pump housing to timing gear plate (6).
7. Remove the six bolts (7) and the locks that hold the timing gear plate to the cylinder block. Remove the timing gear plate and gasket from the engine.
Install Timing Gears And Plate
1. Clean the old gasket from the contact surfaces of the timing gear plate and cylinder block. Install a new gasket on the cylinder block. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where the gasket makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE
2. Put timing gear plate (1) in position on the cylinder block and install the locks and six bolts that hold the plate in place.
3. Install the washers and nuts that hold the fuel pump to the timing gear plate.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE
4. Install camshaft gear (2) with the "C" mark on the camshaft gear in alignment with the "C" mark on the crankshaft gear. Install the washers and bolts that hold the gear in place.
5. Install the bearing in idler gear (3) with tool group (A) and a press. The end of the bearing must be .060 in. (1.52 mm) below the face of the gear hub. Install idler gear (3), plate and the bolts that hold the gear in place.
6. Install accessory drive shaft on machines with a compact fuel system. Install fuel injection pump drive gear (4). For correct installation of the fuel injection pump drive gear and timing of the engine, see INSTALL FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR.
