Usage:
start by:
a) remove crankshaft pulley
b) remove fan drive
c) remove alternator
d) remove water pump
e) remove oil pan
1. Loosen three bolts on each side that hold oil pan plate (2) to the cylinder block.
2. Put spacers between the oil pan plate and the cylinder block to prevent damage to the oil pan plate when the front of the engine is lifted.
3. Remove bolts (1) that hold the engine front support to the frame.
4. Lift the front of the engine and put two hydraulic jacks (4) under each side of the oil pan plate directly under the spacers to hold the weight of the engine. Lower the front of the engine on to the hydraulic jacks.
5. Remove the bolts that hold engine front support (3) to the trunnion and remove the engine front support.
6. Remove the bolts that hold trunnion (5) to the timing gear cover. Remove the trunnion.
NOTICE |
---|
Be extra careful during removal of the trunnion to prevent damage to the crankshaft front seal in the trunnion. |
7. Remove cover (6) and cover (7) from the rear of the timing gear plate.
8. Remove the bolts that hold timing gear cover (8) in place. Carefully loosen the cover from the dowels and remove the cover. Weight of the timing gear cover is 48 lb. (22 kg).
Install Timing Gear Cover
1. Clean the old gasket from the contact surfaces of the timing gear cover and timing gear plate.
2. Install a new gasket on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where the gasket makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan plate.
3. Put timing gear cover (1) in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts that hold the timing gear cover in place.
4. Install covers (2) in the rear of the timing gear plate.
5. Put clean engine oil on the lip of the crankshaft front seal and the outside diameter of the crankshaft. Put trunnion (3) in position on the timing gear cover and install the bolts that hold the trunnion in place.
NOTICE |
---|
Be extra careful when the trunnion is installed to prevent damage to the crankshaft front seal. |
6. Put engine front support (4) in position on the trunnion and install the bolts that hold the front support in place.
7. Lift the front of the engine. Remove the two hydraulic jacks from under the oil pan plate. Lower the front of the engine on to the frame. Install the spacers and bolts that hold the engine front support to the frame. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 90 ± 15 lb.ft. (120 ± 20 N·m).
8. Remove the spacers between the cylinder block and the oil pan plate. Tighten all of the bolts in the oil pan plate.
