Problem
The ROPS support posts need to be replaced on certain 953C Track Type Loaders. The material properties of certain 953C ROPS support posts are below Caterpillar design standards. Machines need to be inspected and if the posts have certain serial numbers, they must be replaced.

Rework Procedure
a. Inspect the ROPS support post and determine if the post serial number is in the replacement group (see Chart below). The serial number is located on the outer surface of the post, at the bottom (see Illustration 1).
b. If the ROPS support post serial number is in the replacement group, order a replacement post and install. Destroy the old post. Tighten the support post on the main frame to a torque of 800 ± 100 N·m. Tighten the cab on the support post to a torque of 850 ± 100 N·m.
