Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Loosen the hose clamps and remove the air inlet hose at the turbocharger compressor housing.

  2. Loosen the clamps and remove the exhaust pipe from elbow (3).

  3. Loosen nut (10). Remove bolts (1). Remove oil supply tube assembly (2) from the turbocharger. Remove gasket (5). If necessary, remove adapter (13) from the cylinder block.

  4. Loosen hose clamp (18). Remove bolts (17). Remove oil drain tube assembly (12) from the turbocharger. Remove gasket (9).

  5. Remove nuts (4). Remove elbow (3) from the turbocharger. Remove gasket (8). If necessary, remove studs (11) from the turbocharger housing.

    Note: Do Not use actuator rod of wastegate (14) to lift the turbocharger.

  6. Remove nuts (6). Remove turbocharger (7). The weight of the turbocharger is approximately 22 kg (49 lb). Remove gasket (15). If necessary, remove studs (16) from the exhaust manifold.

  7. Plug the oil supply and the oil drain ports of the turbocharger.
