NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove engine oil filters (7).

  2. Remove bolts (2).

  3. Remove engine oil filter base (3) from the cylinder block. Remove gasket (1).

  4. If necessary, remove connector (6) and engine oil sampling valve (5) from the engine oil filter base. Remove O-ring seal (4) from the engine oil sampling valve.

  1. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and the engine oil filter base.

  2. Position gasket (1) and engine oil filter base on the cylinder block. Install bolts (2) in order to secure the engine oil filter base (3).

    Note: Do Not use sealants on gasket (1).

  3. Install bolts (2). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 44 N·m (33 lb ft).

    Note: New bolts have sealant to the first 13 mm (0.5 inch) of the threads. In order to reuse the old bolts, clean the old sealant from the bolts and apply Tooling (B) to the bolts.

  4. If necessary, install connector (6) to engine oil filter base (3).

    Note: Apply Tooling (B) to the first 7.5 ± 1.5 mm (0.30 ± 0.06 inch) of threads at the base end of the connector.

  5. Install O-ring seal (4) on engine oil sampling valve (5). Install the engine oil sampling valve and tighten to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  6. Install engine oil filters (7).

  7. Fill the lubrication system with engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for the lubrication system capacity of the engine.
