The 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp And The 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp are the computers that are used in the Marine Monitoring System (MMS), the Marine Monitoring System II (MMS II), and the Generator Monitoring System (GMS). The 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp displays the engine data via RSView software. The 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp displays the engine data via WonderWare software.

All of the software is already installed in the computers when the 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp and the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp are shipped. The shipment also includes the software that follows: "6183 Restore Boot" and "Restore CD". The "6183 Restore Boot" is on a 1.44 Megabyte Floppy Disk. If there is a failure of the computer hard drive or if the files are corrupted, the Floppy Disk and the CD can be used to Restore the computer to the as shipped status. This software will work with a blank computer hard drive that has been formatted. The software will also work with a computer hard drive that has existing files.

Note: The use of the software will remove any existing files that are on the computer hard drive.

In order to Restore a computer hard drive, a parallel port CD drive must be connected to the parallel port of the 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp or the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp. The software that is shipped with the Engine Monitoring Control Groups must be used with one of the following CD drives:

  • 163550 Backpack 2x CD-ROM

  • 163700 Backpack 2x CD-ROM with Sound

  • 164550 Backpack 4x CD-ROM

Other CD drives may be used, but the "6183 Restore Boot" may need to be modified. If necessary, the driver for the specific CD must be added and the "config.sys" file must be modified. A copy of the "6183 Restore Boot" should be used to make the modifications.

Modification Procedure

  1. Copy the driver file that is supplied by the manufacturer of the parallel port CD drive to the copy of the "6183 Restore Boot". This file will have a ".sys" extension. If the floppy disk is too full, the file that has the name "bpcddrv.sys" may be deleted in order to make more room.

  1. Use the "Notepad" or use another text editor to open the "config.sys" file. Revise the "DEVICE = bpcddrv.sys/D:CDROM" line of the file. Substitute the name of the driver file that was copied in Step 1 for "bpcddrv.sys".

  1. Save the revised file.

"Move Activation" Procedure

If the operating system is functional and a 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp is being Restored, run the following procedure. If the operating system is not functional, go directly to the "Restore Procedure".

  1. Insert the "RSView Activation Disk" in the drive for the floppy disk.

  1. Run the "EVMove" program that is located on the "Activation Disk".

  1. Select "Move Activation from C: to A:" from the menu.

  1. Exit.

  1. Remove the floppy disk.

Procedure To Restore Original Software

  1. The cable must be installed between the CD Drive and parallel port of the 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp or the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp. Apply power to the CD Drive. Insert the "Restore CD" in the CD Drive.

  1. Insert the "6183 Restore Boot" floppy disk. Apply power to the 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp or the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp .

  1. The "6183 Restore Boot" will cause the 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp or the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp to start-up in MS-DOS. The "6183 Restore Boot" will begin Restoring the files. Approximately 30 minutes will be required to complete the process.

  1. After the Restoration of the files is complete, restart the 203-7810 Engine Monitoring Control Gp or the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp. Then run the "Initial Setup Procedure".

Note: The Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7632, "Monitors for 3600 Diesel Monitoring Systems" may be used to determine the location of the parallel port. This manual also includes the "Initial Setup Procedure".

Procedure To Activate The "RSView Master Disk"

Note: This procedure is NOT necessary with the 203-7811 Engine Monitoring Control Gp .

If the above "Move Activation Procedure" was successful, go to the "Restore Activation Procedure". If the "Move Activation Procedure" was not successful, continue with this procedure.

  1. Contact Allen-Bradley in order to get a code to Restore the code for activating the "Activation Disk". The following address can be used to find information for contacting technical support for Allen-Bradley.
