- Turn the switch for the fuel control OFF.
- Shut OFF isolation valves (1) and (2) .

- Remove covers (3) and (4) .

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Note: Some engine oil will drain out of the particle detectors when the covers are removed. Prepare to catch the engine oil in a suitable container. Clean up any spills with absorbent pillows or towels. Do not use absorbent particles to clean up the spills.
- Make sure that the monitoring system is powered up.
- Place an electrical conductor on a grid in one of the particle detectors.
If the particle detector is operating correctly, an alarm will be activated.
- Remove the electrical conductor from the grid. Acknowledge the alarm. Reset the monitoring system.
- Place the electrical conductor on the other particle detector's grid.
If the other particle detector is operating correctly, an alarm will be activated.
- Remove the electrical conductor from the grid. Acknowledge the alarm. Reset the monitoring system.
- Place an electrical conductor on the grids of both of the particle detectors.
If the particle detectors are operating correctly, a shutdown will be activated.
- Remove the electrical conductor's from the grids. Acknowledge the shutdown. Reset the monitoring system.
- Install covers (3) and (4) .
- Turn ON isolation valves (1) and (2) .
