3618 Engine Caterpillar

Oil Pressure Transducer - Test - Shutdown for Low Engine Oil pressure

Usage:

3618 2MW
Before you perform this test, make sure that the transducer is properly calibrated. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Transducer - Calibrate".

To ensure proper operation of the transducer, perform this test during engine operation.

  1. Test the transducer for low engine oil pressure at high engine speed.

    1. Operate the engine at a speed that is greater than 788 rpm.

      Transducer for engine oil pressure

      (1) Isolation valve

      (2) Nut for the test port

    1. Turn isolation valve (1) in order to isolate the transducer.

    1. Monitor the engine oil pressure and slowly loosen nut (2) in order to purge the residual pressure from the transducer.

If the transducer is properly calibrated, an engine shutdown will occur when the residual pressure is reduced to 260 kPa (38 psi).

    1. Tighten nut (2). Turn isolation valve (1) back to the position for normal operation.

  1. Acknowledge the alarm and the shutdown that was generated. Reset the control system.

  1. Test the transducer for low engine oil pressure at low engine speed.

    1. Start the engine and adjust the engine speed to low idle rpm.

    1. Turn isolation valve (1) in order to isolate the transducer.

    1. Monitor the engine oil pressure and slowly loosen nut (2) in order to purge the residual pressure.

If the transducer is properly calibrated, an engine shutdown will occur when the residual pressure is reduced to 105 kPa (15 psi).

    1. Tighten nut (2). Turn isolation valve (1) back to the position for normal operation.

  1. Acknowledge the alarm and the shutdown that was generated. Reset the control system.
