Exhaust Elbow - Remove and Install

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


    Note: Use care not to damage thermistors (1) if the thermistors are not removed from the exhaust elbow.

  1. Cut wire ties (2) and disconnect plugs (3) from both thermistors (1).

  2. Remove four bolts (5) that fasten adapter (4) to housing (6).

  3. Disconnect electrical plug (7).

  4. Remove bolts (8) that fasten the exhaust elbow to the turbochargers.

  5. Install Tool (A) on adapter (4) and attach a suitable lifting device.

    Note: Do not damage seals when exhaust elbow (9) is removed.

  6. Remove nine bolts (10) that fasten exhaust elbow (9) to the support. Remove the exhaust elbow (9). The exhaust elbow weighs approximately 91 kg (200 lb).

  7. Remove seal (11) from each side of exhaust elbow (9).

  8. Remove seal (12) from housing (6).

  1. Inspect the condition of the seal for housing (6) and the seals for exhaust elbow (9). Replace the seals, if necessary.

  2. Install seal (6) in housing (12).

  3. Install seal (11) on each side of exhaust elbow (9).

  4. Install Tool (A) on adapter (4) and attach a suitable lifting device.

  5. Put exhaust elbow (9) in position on the support and install nine bolts (10).

  6. Install bolts (8) that fasten the exhaust elbow to the turbochargers.

  7. Connect electrical plug (7).

  8. Install four bolts (5) that fasten adapter (4) to housing (6).

  9. Connect plugs (3) for both thermistors (1). Install wire ties (1).
