Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install".
2. Remove the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".

Note: Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks on the following gears are aligned: crankshaft gear, camshaft gear, fuel injection pump gear and idler gear (1) .

1. Use a suitable puller to remove idler gear (2) .

2. Use a suitable puller to remove crankshaft gear (3) from crankshaft (4) .

   Note: Do not use a flame on the crankshaft gear for removal purposes.

   Note: Be careful not to damage the bearing journal surface of the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure

1. Heat crankshaft gear (3) in a radiant oven to 180 °C (356 °F).

2. Install crankshaft gear (3) on crankshaft (4) with the timing marks toward the front.

3. Install idler gear (2) .

   Note: Ensure that the timing marks on the crankshaft gear, the camshaft gear, and the fuel injection pump gear are aligned with the timing marks on the idler gear (1) .

End By:

1. Install the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Install".
2. Install the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install".
