Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
This test should be performed in order to check the flow rate of the case drain for the swing motor.
- Start the engine.
- Position the machine on level ground.
- Stop the engine.
- Prior to any adjustment, refer to the "Preparations" section in Testing and Adjusting, "Operational Checks".
- Turn the engine start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.
- Make sure that one end of line (1) is connected to the case drain port (2) of the swing motor. Disconnect line (1) at the opposite end and cap the connection. Place the end of line (1) in a large bucket in order to collect the hydraulic oil.

- Turn the engine start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
- Start the engine.
- Adjust the engine speed to HIGH IDLE by turning the engine speed dial to position 10.
- Lower the left console.
- Engage the swing lock pin and push down on the swing brake switch.
- Slowly move the joystick for swing control and make sure that the swing parking brake is activated.
- Move the joystick for swing control to the FULL SWING LEFT or to the FULL SWING RIGHT position.
- Measure the amount of hydraulic oil that flows into the bucket from the swing motor for 30 seconds.
- Release the swing brake switch.
- Disengage the swing lock pin.
- Swing the upper structure into a new position.
- Repeat Steps 12 through 18 three times in order to obtain three measurements.
- Turn the engine start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and reconnect the hydraulic lines.
The following value specifies the maximum acceptable flow of the case drain oil.
New swing motor ... 3.0 L/min (0.79 US gpm)
