Engine Oil Coolers - Remove

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the engine oil from the engine oil coolers into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".

    Note: Remove plug (7) from the oil cooler bonnet in order to drain the coolant from the engine oil coolers.

  2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  3. Disconnect harness assembly (3) from the oil outlet cover.

  4. Disconnect tube (2) from the elbow.

  5. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil cooler (1), if necessary. The weight of engine oil cooler (1) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb). Remove bolts (4). Remove engine oil cooler (1).

  6. Remove tube (5) and remove tube (6).

  7. Remove tube (9).

  8. Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine oil coolers and oil temperature regulator housing (10). The weight of the engine oil coolers and oil temperature regulator housing (10) is approximately 137 kg (302 lb). Remove bolts (8). Remove the engine oil coolers and oil temperature regulator housing (10).
