Start By:

  1. Remove the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to the Service Manual, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

  2. Remove the buffer. Refer to the Service Manual, "Buffer - Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Sudden release of nitrogen pressure can cause personal injury.

To avoid personal injury, release the nitrogen pressure from the accumulator before disassembly.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove plug (1).

  2. Slowly turn purge screw (2) in a counterclockwise direction. When nitrogen gas begins to escape, stop turning the screw.

  3. When the gas can no longer be heard, turn the purge screw for another 360 degrees in a counterclockwise direction.

  4. Install Tooling (A) to the accumulator.

  5. Remove eight bolts (3).

  6. Install Tooling (B), lifting chains, and a hoist. Slowly lift accumulator (4) from control valve (5). The weight of the accumulator is 82 kg (181 lb).
