345B Series II Material Handler Caterpillar

Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change

Usage:

345B II MH APB

NOTICE

Do not change the coolant until you read and understand the material in the Cooling System Specifications section.

NOTICE

Mixing Extended Life Coolant (ELC) with other products reduces the effectiveness of the coolant and shortens coolant life. Use only Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specifications for premixed or concentrate coolants. Use only Caterpillar Extender with Caterpillar ELC. Failure to follow these recommendations could result in the damage to cooling systems components.

If ELC cooling system contamination occurs, refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Extended Life Coolant (ELC)" under the topic ELC Cooling System Contamination.

This machine was factory filled with Extended Life Coolant.

If the coolant in the machine is changed to Extended Life Coolant from another type of coolant, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Extended Life Coolant (ELC) Cooling System Maintenance".

Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information that pertains to containing fluid spillage.

  1. Open the drain valve and allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container. The drain valve is under the radiator.

Note: Dispose of drained fluids according to local regulations.

  1. Flush the cooling system with clean water until the draining water is clean.

  1. Close the drain valve.

  1. Add the Extended Life Coolant. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities".

  1. Start the engine. Operate the engine without the radiator cap until the thermostat opens and the coolant level stabilizes.

  1. Check the coolant reservoir. Maintain the coolant level between the "FULL" mark and the "LOW" mark.

  1. Install the radiator cap.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Close the radiator access door.
