Engine Will Not Operate in Parallel - Troubleshoot
- Check the reverse power relay for correct connections. Check the reverse power relay for a correct setting of power level and for a length of time delay.
Expected Result: The settings are acceptable.
Results:
- OK: Increase the settings above the normal range. Go to 2.
- NOT OK: Adjust settings for the appropriate power level. STOP.
- OK: Increase the settings above the normal range. Go to 2.
- Check the parallel operation.
- Operate the engine in parallel.
Expected Result: The engine will operate in parallel.
Results:
- OK: Go to 3.
- NOT OK: The engine will NOT operate in parallel. Reverse power is very high. Go to Testing And Adjusting, "Engine Does Not Share Load - Troubleshoot". If after performing the above test the engine still will NOT operate in parallel, replace the generator set load sensor. STOP.
- OK: Go to 3.
- Operate the engine in parallel.
- Check the settings of the reverse power relay.
- Check to see if the reverse power relay settings are the same as the actual reverse power flow and length of time delay, or if the settings are overlimit.
Note: After the cause is found, adjust the reverse power relay back to the correct settings.
Expected Result: Reverse power is NOT overlimit.
Results:
- OK: The problem is solved. STOP.
- NOT OK: Reverse power is overlimit. Some of the possible causes are voltage instrument errors and low engine power. If there are voltage instrument errors, repair the instruments or replace the instruments. STOP. If the engine power is low, go to the governor Service Manual, Troubleshooting, "Engine Will Not Carry Load (Low Power)".
- OK: The problem is solved. STOP.
- Check to see if the reverse power relay settings are the same as the actual reverse power flow and length of time delay, or if the settings are overlimit.
