Problem:
One of the events recorded by the Machine Security System (MSS) is Event 273. Event 273 is intended to record the number of machine starts attempted with an invalid key. In the current release of MSS software (207-5268 Machine Software Group (Security)), all key starts, both valid and invalid, are reported as invalid. This will cause the event counter to increase each time the MSS reads a key. All machines that are equipped with MSS will demonstrate this problem. This problem is a reporting issue that is only seen when viewing Logged Events in ET or Product Link reports (see Illustration 1). This problem will not affect the system's ability to prevent the machine from starting when an invalid key is used.
Solution:
Caterpillar Engineering is aware of this issue. The fix for this problem will be incorporated in the next Flash File release. The next Flash File release is scheduled for Summer, 2002 (approximate).
