SUBJECT: Inspect the Check Valve in the Fuel Filter Base if You Have Starting Problems or if the Engine Runs Rough

PROBLEM: This information has been updated. The machine effectivity has been changed. Please disregard TIBU3609-00 published May 29, 2002, TIBU3609-01 published June 26, 2002, TIBU3609-02 published September 4, 2002, and TIBU3609-03 published October 23, 2002.

The engine may be hard to start or it may run rough once it has started. One of the possible causes of this problem is damage to the 156-5783 Check Valve that is part of the fuel filter base.

SOLUTION:

Remove the 156-5783 Check Valve (1) from the 139-6941 Fuel Filter Base Group. Inspect the 33-6033 Seal (2) and the 6V-6923 Back-up Ring (3) for damage. Replace the seal and the back-up ring if they are damaged. Inspect the ball (4) for damage. Check to see if the ball is seating correctly. Check the cavity in the fuel filter base. Ensure that there is no sharp edge that could cut the seal during assembly. Replace the 156-5783 Check Valve if the ball is damaged or if the ball is not seating correctly.

A 210-9528 Check Valve may also be added in order to provide a secondary check function should the primary valve (156-5783) leak. The valve threads into the port in the secondary fuel base that the return-to-tank line connects to, then the line is connected to the check fitting as shown above. Use a 6V-5049 O-Ring Seal for both connections.

Industrial Engines: Install the 210-9528 Check Valve into the return-to-tank line at the 145-1760 Manifold Adapter (if equipped). Install the 6V-8636 Connector (or OEM supplied connector) into the check valve. Use a 6V-5049 O-ring seal at both connections.

Affected lines groups for industrial engines: 197-5965, 165-0629, 165-0630, 189-4674, 189-4675, 189-4677, 197-5965, 130-8369, 136-0859, 140-6260, 152-8600, 184-5115
