Bolt Pattern Change From Six To Four In Piston And Rod For Bucket And Stick Cylinders Improves Service Life {5457,5458}

Usage:

5130 (5ZL),
5130B (4CS),
5230 (7LL) Excavators

Description of Change: The bolt pattern, for piston retaining bolts, was changed from six to four to locate the bolts closer to the centerline of the rod. The diameter of the bolt pattern was changed from 117 mm (4.6 in) to 83 mm (3.3 in).

The pattern change increases the material thickness and area between the outside diameter of the bolt holes and outside diameter of the rod. Increased material thickness will prevent cracking through the bolt holes.

Adaptable To: The new 157-8534 Rod and new 157-8532 Piston replace the former 124-5281 Rod and 120-5815 Piston in the 103-6035 Stick Cylinder. The new 157-8548 Rod and new 157-8546 Piston replace the former 135-7333 Rod and former 114-5495 Piston in the 116-0437 Bucket Cylinder and 116-0439 Bucket Cylinder.

This change is effective with the following stick or bucket cylinders and models:

5130 (5ZL), And 5130B (4CS) Excavators

103-6035 Stick Cylinder (Eng. Chg. 08).

5230 (7LL) Excavators

116-0437 Bucket Cylinder (Eng. Chg. 06).
116-0439 Bucket Cylinder (Eng. Chg. 06).

NOTE: An engineering change number (Eng. Chg.) indicates effectivity of this improvement or adaptability to previous cylinders. The cylinder part number, engineering change number, and date of manufacture are found on the cylinder tag.

This change is adaptable to earlier stick or bucket cylinder groups used on the following models:

5130 (5ZL), And 5130B (4CS) Excavators

1. Remove former rod and piston from 103-6035 Stick Cylinder.

2. Install new 157-8534 Rod and new 157-8532 Piston.

5230 (7LL) Excavators

1. Remove former rod and piston from 116-0437 Bucket Cylinder or 116-0439 Bucket Cylinder.

2. Install new 157-8548 Rod and new 157-8546 Piston.
